Message from Angelique Blunk, Director of Initiation
Welcome to new and returning Initiation players and parents. Initiation hockey is a time that our kids begin their hockey journey and develop the love of the game. It takes the contributions of many to help our young players learn the skills of hockey, become good team mates and have fun along the way. Thanks to all of the parents who have already volunteered as coaches and assistant coaches, safety officers and team and division managers. There are other opportunities to volunteer for our various fundraising activities and our Initiation Tournament. We will be reaching out to you during the season.
This year we are excited to announce that our bi-weekly skill sessions will be delivered by Leslie Global Sports with Nate Leslie and Ben Mackay.
We will also be hosting the T-Birds Initiation Tournament again on the Family Day Weekend, February 9-12.
Lastly, I wanted to update you on some changes recently announced by BC Hockey regarding ice configurations for Initiation. H1 and H2 will continue to use the cross-ice surface during practices and games. They have also approved the use of both cross-ice and half-ice for H3 and H4 dependent upon the size of the ice surface, along with controlled full-ice scrimmages for H4 beginning on February 1 of the season.
The season kicks-off with our Initiation Jamboree on Saturday, September 9th (more information to follow). I look forward to seeing you all then.
