VOLUNTEERING IS MANDATORY FOR YOUR REGISTRATION!

RETURNING PLAYERS - REVIEW THE DETAILS BELOW IN ORDER TO SELECT ONE CHOICE FOR THE ONLINE REGISTRATION, PARENTS MUST INDICATE AT LEAST ONE SELECTION IN ORDER TO COMPLETE THE ONLINE REGISTRATION.

NEW PLAYERS - MUST INCLUDE VOLUNTEER FORM WITH AT LEAST ONE SELECTION ALONG WITH YOUR REGISTRATION PACKAGE.

The quality of hockey that we provide to our players is directly dependent upon the dedication of our volunteers and the countless hours they give of their time. “Hockey parents” are expected to volunteer in some capacity.

BOARD APPOINTED  POSITIONS

Sponsorship:   - (under revision) canvass businesses to financially sponsor VTMHA teams.
Tournament Committee: - Approximately 60 hrs per tournament.  Oversees the organization of all the VTMHA tournaments throughout the season. Solicits teams to fill tournament, makes all arrangements for out of town teams, books ice, and handles all money. Finds & coordinates volunteers to do the individual tasks that make a successful tournament – schedule games, gather ads, program layout & printing, medals, give aways, concession, raffle.
(Due to the large time commitment involved in these positions, a $400/YR. honorarium is paid to the incumbents for the above positions.)

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Fundraising - to assist with various fundraising activities.  You will be contacted to help with one of our various fundraising events.  If you wish to volunteer for a specific event, please select from options below.
Referee Assignor/monitor: work with Referee-in-Chief to schedule referees and linesmen for Thunderbirds home games in a division.

ASSOCIATION VOLUNTEERS (OTHER)

House assessments Coordinator assistant
Rep tryouts Coordinator assistant
Assessment Jersey Manager 1 per div = 6:  Initially pickup jerseys from equipment mgr., assigns them to players at the first assessment. Collects them after assessments are completed and returns them, CLEAN, to Equipment Manager
Meat & pie fundraiser helper:  (help with distribution of orders on pick up day 4-8 hrs.total)
Giants night volunteer coordinator – (6-8 hrs.)
Giants night volunteer – (2 or 3/2 hr. commitments)
Thunderball – Dinner/Dance –Volunteer (6-8 hrs)
Selling ads in tournament programs (time frame can be April to Sept)

TEAM POSITIONS

Head Coach:  The PCAHA makes no distinction between coaches and assistant coaches. All are required to undergo a Criminal Record Check and to take the appropriate coach certification course (2 days) & a Speak Out course (3.5 hours). (all requirements are paid for by the Assoc. upon completion of required workbook) *at this point, the Speak Out course only has to be taken once; the certification is good for ensuing years Coaches generally spend 10 hours per week involved in planning practices, organizing bench, dressing room before practices and games and implementing games.  Rep Coach Applications must be submitted to Director of Hockey Operations  DOWNLOAD REP COACH APPLICATION FORM.

 

Assistant Coach – As above (Head Coach)

 

Team Manager: Assist the coach by organizing timekeepers, scorekeepers and fundraising (50/50 and others); rescheduling conflict games and dealing with any other changes as required; preparing team phone lists and schedules; communicating with parents; keeps team bank account and is accountable to the parents for all funds raised and spent. Tracks referee money provided by VTMHA & submits an interim report in Dec. & a finalized accounting in March. PCAHA requires managers to take the Speak Out course (3.5 hours). *at this point, ‘Speak Out’ only has to be taken once; cert. lasts for ensuing years Managers must have a Criminal Record Check done. (All requirements are paid for by the Assoc.)
Hockey Canada Safety Person: (HCSP): should attend all games and is expected to know enough about injuries to evaluate the need to call for professional assistance, know where the first aid equipment is in the arenas and how to best get ambulance access to the rink.  Trainers are required to take Canadian Hockey Safety Program course (8 hours) and Speak Out course (3.5 hours) *at this point, the Speak Out course only has to be taken once; the certification is good for ensuing years. Trainers must have a Criminal Record Check done. (all requirements are paid for by the Assoc.)

Please note that participation in team-sponsored events such as 50-50, team fund-raising, score clock and time keeping as well as team activities is expected from all parents.
