Player Selection Process

2022-2023 Rep Player Selection Process

• The tryout process will adhere to the requirements laid out in Policy 9 – Rep Selection Process. (Rep Player Selection Policy). Please review the policy prior to your first tryout skate.
• All participants should have completed the Rep Commitment Form sent to you when you registered for Rep Tryouts. All behavioural and commitment expectations should be adhered to.
• Participants MUST attend all tryout sessions they are assigned to attend with the following exceptions
  • Injury – a doctor’s note must be submitted to the Executive Director with both the nature of the injury and the expected return to play date;
  • Covid symptoms – If a player is showing symptoms of Covid-19, including any cold or flu symptoms, they must not attend any Vancouver Thunderbird event and the Executive Director should be informed immediately. In addition, the player must follow the BC Centre for Disease Control guidelines as to when they can return to activities which can be found here: http://www.bccdc.ca/health-info/diseases-conditions/covid-19 They will be treated in the same manner as an injured player as per the Rep Selection Policy – Section 2.3 (Rep Player Selection Policy).
• U15 or U18 players who are still part of Hockey Canada sanctioned U15 AAA, U18 AAA, or Junior team tryout camps are required to be in regular communication with the Executive Director throughout the process to maintain their eligibility with TBirds as per the Rep Selection Policy.
• The evaluation team is comprised of non-parent coaches and external evaluators. Parent coaches will be asked to support during games and on-ice practices but are not involved with providing evaluations.
• No player is guaranteed a spot on a rep team based on their performance on any one day. The assessment process involves player movement upward, lateral (staying in the same group), and downward at each stage. This movement is based on the player’s performance during each session.
• A rep parent meeting will be held via Zoom where a minimum of one parent per player must participate. The timing of this meeting will be communicated at a later date.
