Summer Programming 2023
Week #2, August 21 - 25 2023, Hillcrest Rink. All camps are one hour in duration with the exception of Rep Prep
Power Skating and Skills
This camp will provide players an opportunity to work on their skating while continuing to develop their passing, stick handling, and puck control skills. This camp is for players of all skill levels. Players will be grouped based on skill for small group stations and drills.
Newer to Hockey
This camp is specifically designed to welcome players who have never played organized hockey alongside our one year "veterans" who can show them the ropes. It will be a great way to introduce new players to the rink, getting ready, and to show them just how much fun to expect every week once the season starts. For our U7 players, they will be put through the paces to get them ready for the start of another great season. This camp is for players of all skill levels. Players will be grouped based on skill for small group stations and drills.
Rep Prep - Skills and Scoring
Rep Prep - Power Skating
This camp is designed to prepare players for the rep tryouts and will focus on puck skills, skating, and positioning through the use of drills and small area games. A high tempo pace will help players get their game up to speed while providing opportunity to improve their individual skills so they can perform their best at the tryouts starting on August 28. This camp consists of two back-to-back ice sessions with one session focussing on skills and scrimmage and the other working with skating coach Karen Kos.
Players must be registered for rep tryouts to participate in this camp.
Rep - Power Skating
Skating is one of the most important skills in hockey. By improving your skating, you will be better able to stay in the play, allowing players to get to the puck more and increasing your impact on the game. Maximizing your stride and having control over your edges will truly set you apart from everyone else on the ice. If you want to ensure you are entering the season at full flight, this session is a must! This camp is for rep level players. This is NOT a camp for beginners or players who do not have a strong base in skating.
Power Skating and Skills - Rec
An opportunity for U11/U13 Recreation players to develop and refine their skating skills and to elevate their game through participation in drills that promote the development of stickhandling, shooting, and passing skills. This camp is for players of all skill levels. Players will be grouped based on skill for small group stations and drills.
Checking 101 - Rep
Checking 101 in an introduction to body checking where players will learn to safely make and receive a body check. This camp is for players who have not previously taken a checking clinic, or who need a refresher on proper checking techniques. Players trying out for U15 or U18 Rep need to have completed Checking 101 or an equivalent in another MHA to be eligible to tryout. Players should be registered for rep tryouts to register for this camp.
Compete and Battle - Rep
The game of hockey is made up of a continuous series of small area battles that take place across the entire rink. This camp is designed to teach players how to compete both with and without the puck in a high tempo challenging setting. Players should be registered for rep tryouts to register for this camp.
